Curriculum Resources

At Centerville Community Schools, our mission is to provide a challenging and supportive learning environment where every student can grow academically, socially, and emotionally. We carefully select research-based instructional materials that align with state standards and support our goal of preparing students for success in school and beyond.

Below you’ll find an overview of the core curriculum resources used throughout our district.


English Language Arts (ELA)

Grades K–5

  • Wonders – A comprehensive literacy program that builds strong reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills.
  • Heggerty – Focuses on phonemic awareness and early literacy foundations.
  • Fundations – Provides systematic instruction in phonics, spelling, and handwriting.
  • Just Words – Supports students who need additional word study and decoding practice.

Grades 6–8

  • myPerspectives – A modern, interactive language arts program that blends diverse texts with collaborative projects and digital learning tools.
  • 6–8 Reading List – Students explore a variety of literary and informational texts that promote critical thinking, empathy, and communication skills. (I will send you a link when I have the reading list updated, and we can add it)

Grades 9–12

  • Teacher-Created Units – High school teachers design rigorous, standards-based units that promote critical reading, writing, and analysis.
  • 9–12 Reading List – Includes a blend of classic literature, contemporary works, and diverse voices to help students connect reading to the world around them. ( I will send you a link when I have the reading list updated, and we can add it)

Mathematics

Grades K–12

  • Illustrative Mathematics (IM360) – A problem-based curriculum that builds deep conceptual understanding, encourages collaboration, and connects math to real-world contexts.

Science

Grades K–5

  • Mystery Science – Hands-on, inquiry-based lessons that spark curiosity and scientific thinking.

Grades 6–12

  • OpenSciEd – Encourages exploration, investigation, and evidence-based reasoning aligned with Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS).

Social Studies

Grades K–12

  • McGraw-Hill Social Studies – Provides engaging materials that connect history, civics, geography, and culture to students’ everyday lives and global perspectives.

STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math)

Grades 6–12

  • Project Lead The Way (PLTW) – A hands-on, project-based program that inspires students to think critically, solve problems, and explore pathways in engineering, biomedical science, and computer science.

Social-Emotional Learning (SEL)

Grades PreK–5

  • Second Step – Builds skills in empathy, emotion management, and problem-solving to support positive behavior and strong relationships.

Grades 6–8

  • Character Strong – Focuses on character development, emotional intelligence, and building a sense of belonging and purpose.

High School Course Catalog

The Centerville High School Course Catalog provides students and families with detailed information about available classes, graduation requirements, and academic pathways.
Students can use the catalog to explore course descriptions, prerequisites, and opportunities such as Advanced Placement (AP), dual credit, and elective programs.
